Coming home to find a man plowing your wife. Its a way for a jury to have a lesser charge to fall back on when its believed a jury would not convict the person of first or second degree homicide. Involuntary manslaughter is when it wasnt intentional, but the action could be considered negligent and grave bodily harm could be seen as a reasonable outcome. None of these are self defense.
